Dadra

 

Dadra is a form of semi-classical music developed from folk music sung by women in Uttar Pradesh. Traditionally it is sung in Dadra Taal and hence the name Dadra. Kherwa taal is also used to sing Dadras. Any composition will have 2 parts: the Sthayi and the Antara. It is sung in the local languages like Brajabhasa, Maithili and Hindi. Dadra has romantic lyrics. The lyrics are of utmost importance in a Dadra. Famous Dadra singers are Rasoolan Bai, Siddeshwari Devi, Begum Akhtar, Barkat Ali Khan and Girija Devi. They all have made Dadra famous in the world as a light-classical form of singing.

 

Sadra

 

Sadra is a fast Dhrupad composition sung in Jhaptaal. Rest of it is similar to Drupad.
