Features of the raga:

 

  1. Gandhar and Nishad are the nyasa swars of this raga.
  2.  To show a reflection of Puriya ang, we sing the swar alignment ‘Nị  á¸¾a Ga’.
  3.  In the Purvanga of the song ‘Nị Dhạ Nị, Re Ga, Re Sa, Nị Re Ḿa Ga’ is from raga Puriya  and  ‘Ḿa Dha Ni   Ni Dha Pa   Sa   NiDhaNi    Dha Pa’ is from raga Kalyan.
  4.  To differentiate it from Puriya Dhanashri raga, instead of Ga Pa, we use teevra Madhyam in the aroha eg. ‘Ḿa  Ga Re Ga Pa’.
